Comedy and Cocktails Coming to Park Slope's Fifth Avenue By Leslie Albrecht

PARK SLOPE — Local Democrats bracing for a Trump presidency have a new place to laugh and drink their worries away.

Salzy, a lounge for comedy, music and cocktails, officially opened Wednesday at 506 Fifth Ave. (between 12th and 13th streets), where The Fifth Estate was until it closed in September.

Headed by comedian Jennifer Salzman, Salzy has a stage area in the back of the bar that can hold 75 people and be closed off with a curtain during performances.

"Salzy is the perfect expression of my passions for hospitality and producing unique events that showcase talented performers,” said Salzman. "The cocktail bar at the front of the venue will be a fun and sophisticated gathering place to catch up over drinks and bites, and the performance space will become a hub for comics, DJs, bands and other creatives to convene and perform."

Salzman, a former corporate recruiter turned stand-up comic, lives in Park Slope and is the founder of Boss Bitch Productions, which hosts monthly stand-up shows featuring female comics.

Performers slated to take the stage at Salzy include Mark Normand, Monroe Martin and Phoebe Robinson.
